Weekly Food Pantry - Thursdays from 3-4pm
Food security is basic, and yet we have some families in our community who need some assistance despite working several jobs in many cases. Guilford Cares works with state agencies and local grocery stores. We harness the generosity of community members to make good nutritional food available to families and individuals in need. This activity happens each Thursday afternoon at 3-4 PM at the Broad Brook Community Center.
The project represents a major commitment for Guilford Cares, and a hard-working team of loyal volunteers makes this happen every week. The Guilford Community takes great pride in supporting this effort to ensure our young and old neighbors have healthy food.
Medical Equipment Lending - upon request
Guilford Cares has a stockpile of walkers, wheelchairs, crutches, canes, and other equipment citizens might need at home when recovering from injury or surgery.
Community members often donate equipment they no longer need for Guilford Cares to make available to others.
We loan the equipment for as long as needed. Do you need this assistance?
Community Nurse - visits upon request
We are so lucky to have a terrific nurse, Sandy Merz, RN, who visits community members who need extra help or evaluation. Do you need a visit from Sandy?
Visits and Rides - upon request
A friendly neighbor visit can help out someone house bound. We check in on folks who are home alone to chat, to see if they need someone to run an errand, maybe to reach something on a high shelf, or quite often for a game of cards. We help out with rides to medical appointments and trips to the grocery store when our residents need such help.
Secretly, our volunteers report they usually get more out of these visits than the individual they are visiting does.
Need a ride or a visit?
Tech Support - upon request
You told us that you need help with computers (don’t we all!) We found help. In the Tech Mentor Program, computer professionals volunteer their time to go to your house to help you sort out problems. They can help you select the needed equipment, set it up for you, and walk you through using it to achieve the desired result.
They get rave reviews! Why not give us a call next time you get stuck on a computer problem?
Referrals to other agencies
Often there are other Vermont agencies that can help our neighbors in ways Guilford Cares cannot. We usually know what is available and how to reach those sources of help. You can always contact us for a referral to such sources of help. Feel free to reach out to us with any and all questions.
The Guilford town website has a very informative resource list collaboratively created by State Representative Sara Coffey, Selectboard Member Verandah Porche, and Guilford Cares.
